Leslie, just discovered your non-cooking blog! Loving it! And love love love that you mentioned guasanas. Nobody outside of Guadalajara has ever understood what a guasana is when I try to describe them. Yay for steamed guasanas in a bolsita con limón y sal!
I really hope and your son you have many asthma & worry free days. It sounds pretty scary. If you´re interested in trying a new approach, just ask. My husband had terrible asthma crises because of my cat and now he even sleeps with him acostado sobre su cabeza. :D

Gracias por el abrazo, Ezzy! :) We do keep a nebulizer in the house because both mine and Nick's asthma can get real bad. The funny thing is that we bought it to use with Jack when he was a baby. But after the age of 2, he's never used it again. :P

Nick was diagnosed by an allergist in Guadalajara. In our case, we have both asthma and allergies. It starts with the allergies, but quickly develops into an asthma crisis. :P

Poor kid. There is nothing worse than watching your baby suffer. I know it sounds gross, but Salvadorans swear that turtle blood cures asthma. Supposedly my husband suffered as a kid until drinking some. EEWW!

Leslie, te mando un abrazote. Asthma really scares me. It sounds like your son's gets really serious. You must have to keep a nebulizer in the house, right? The couple times our son has come down with pneumonia and had to take liquid cortisone, have pushed me to the edge of motherhood. Hang in there, amiga. Pronto pasará el invierno. The docs say the kids improve with age. I'm praying that true.

That is my greatest wish right now, that my son's asthma will disappear as he gets older. My husband suffered from asthma as a child, and says that cycling has helped "cure" him. :)

I think that watching your child struggle for every breath is one of the worst feelings in the world.

We used Singulair for a couple of years, but then had to switch to stronger meds. We're both using Combivent for our inhalers and nebulizer.

I really feel for you, Leslie! I had bad asthma issues as a child but thankfully grew out of them as I got older. I definitely remember the coughing, wheezing and sleepless nights. Even now, when the seasons change, I sometimes have a few days where I wheeze. And when I visit Mexico City in the winter, I always bring an inhaler as a precaution because of the altitude. Hang in there! Have you guys tried regular allergy shots?

Oh man I'm so sorry. It's such a scary thing dealing with asthma. Because of our allergies we have to be wary of houses with cats and what we eat, and carry the asthma pump in case it gets bad. But dealing with your child having it too? So very scary.

I really miss falls up north. Clear days with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. It makes you good to feel alive. There is something about 92 degree weather in November that makes me think more of flesh rotting on the bone.

I know how scary it is to watch you child struggle for a breath. As a fellow asthma suffer have you looked into Singulair; it has been a God Sent for me and my siblings. I assume you two are using inhaled steroids a couple a times a day to reduce the inflammation in your lungs. [[HUGS]]

(Nervous Chuckle) I think I will go fire up my nebulizer just to be sure it still runs and I have all the supplies I need for it.
